Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
We are a third generation painting company. Our grandfather started the company back in the 60's, passed it to our father in the 70's, and we took over in 2015. So, somewhere around 30 to 40+ years, and hopefully many more to come.
What is your primary product or service?
We specialize in interior as well as exterior painting on both residential, and commercial projects.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
This resorts back to the first question. I was pretty much raised in a family of painters. My dad, my dad's dad, all my uncles, on both mom and dad's side. It was kind of my destiny. However, there were times when I was younger that I thought I was going to be a rock star, and other times when I thought I was going to be the world's strongest man champion. I did power lifting for years, and tried running security for the local heavy metal bands in Cincinnati, and after long nights at all the bars, I'd go into the gym and try lifting heavy poundages. Well, needless to say I injured myself and laid in bed for months on end stewing in my own self loathing. Finally, I realized what exactly it was that I wanted to do. I got up, and gave giving my dad's business another shot of a rebirth, after trying several times in the past I had zero success, so I knew that this time had to count or I was gonna give up yet again. I started in the lower end of the spectrum, and worked my way back up. I had met all the right people this time, and played my cards a lot more accurately and the company took off. We are now back in full force and only moving upward.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
We are prideful of ALL our work. We go over our work areas a number of times during the painting process. Also, we pride ourselves on customer service as well. We have a policy that shows the amount of confidence we have in our employees by not accepting payment up front, and allowing the homeowner/customer the opportunity to see what kind of work we produce prior to making any payment, so that they arte comfortable with their choice as well as knowing that we will stay until completion of the project and not take advantage of them in any way shape or form. However, if the project is larger, and will take longer to complete we will then agree on some form of a draw at different stages of the project.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
We have only have one location, however, we are hoping to one day have a franchise with several locations throughout the States.
What type of payments do you accept?
Check, cash, and all major credit cards.
Which areas do you service?
The Greater Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky, and portions of Eastern Indiana.
Who owns your company or runs daily operations?
Donny Purdon
What are your hours of operation?
Monday through Friday from 9am to 5pm, and closed Saturday and Sunday, however, if we are on a deadline and a project is needing to be completed we will work weekends.
What is the best compliment anyone can give you?
A referral, a 5 star review, and just a simple "thanks, looks great", would suffice. Those words go a long way in the painting industry. It seems that throughout the years painting has lost it's weight in the occupational world, and people have less and less respect for painters, and what exactly it is that we do. I believe that some people actually feel that there is little to no skill involved in painting. I can assure you, that could not be further from the truth. I have over 20 years in the industry myself, and I am still learning on a daily basis. You can never fully master the art of professional painting.
What is your favorite quote or Bible verse?
For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that who so ever believes in him shall not perish, but have everlasting life.
